The Plan Is Often Protecting the Assumption

Plans create order.

They coordinate resources.

Clarify responsibilities.

Define progress.

But every plan also contains assumptions about the world in which it is expected to work.

As commitment to the plan increases, those assumptions can become increasingly difficult to question.

Eventually the organization begins protecting the plan from reality.

Not intentionally.

Simply because changing the assumption threatens everything built upon it.

Which assumption would force the plan to change if it were no longer true?
